Program to Spotlight Aviation Legacy of Howard Hughes

The unique legacy of Howard Hughes will be spotlighted when aviation historian Gene Lassers presents an audiovisual program on the aviator and his most famous work at the Flight Path Learning Center and Museum. Lassers, a recognized authority on the life and achievements of Hughes, will speak on Thursday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at Flight Path in the LAX Imperial Terminal, 6661 W. Imperial Hwy., Los Angeles. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free. The program will focus primarily on development of the famed H-4 Flying Boat, better known as the Spruce Goose, according to Flight Path President Rowena Ake. Controversy surrounding the project also will be reviewed. "Flight Path has several exhibits devoted to the contributions of Howard Hughes," said Ake. "They are especially popular with our visitors and include a large model of the Spruce Goose, a collection of Hughes satellite models, and other items of historic value." The event is part of Flight Path’s Special Program Series and year-long salute to 50 years of jet passenger service at LAX and the 80th anniversary of the airport’s historic Hangar No. 1.
