MUSEUM PROGRAM SALUTES BOEING CENTENNIALFrom: Jim HoltsclawDate: 5/31/2016 12:56:58 PM CommentsA century of service by America’s leading aircraft manufacturer will be featured in a presentation by the Boeing Centennial Committee on Tuesday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at the Flight Path Museum in the LAX Imperial Terminal, 6661 W. Imperial Highway, Los Angeles. Admission and parking are free.Boeing’s 100 years have included the manufacture of both military and civilian aircraft, including the B-247, the first truly modern airliner; the legendary B-17 and B-29 bombers of World War II; the pioneering B-707 jetliner; the iconic B-747 jumbo jet; and today’s B-787 Dreamliner. “The story of Boeing is inseparable from the history of Los Angeles International Airport,” said Lynne Adelman, Flight Path president. “Beginning with the Stratocruiser of the propeller era and continuing into the jet age, Boeing aircraft have been a major presence here at LAX.” Boeing’s history includes the acquisition of a number of other aircraft and aviation firms, including North American, McDonnell Douglas and parts of the Hughes air empire. Boeing is headquartered in Chicago but has a significant manufacturing presence in Southern California, producing satellites in El Segundo, rockets in Huntington Beach and C-17 military transport aircraft in Long Beach. The Flight Path Speaker Series will continue on September 20 with a memoir of famed World War II pilot Gen. Jimmy Doolittle and a special presentation and exhibition by aviation photographer Jean-christophe Dick of HNTB Corp., beginning November 5.
